Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni tied the nuptial knot with childhood friend Sakshi Singh Rawat on Sunday in a private ceremony attended only by family members and close friends, including a few of his team-mates, at a farmhouse.
The 28-year-old wicket-keeper batsman got engaged to Sakshi, a 23-year-old hotel management student, at a private ceremony on Saturday night.
The wedding at the picturesque Vishranti Resorts at Bidhauli, about 25km from here, was strictly a private affair with only 50-60 close relatives from both the families of the bride and the groom, along with few of Dhoni’s India team-mates, attending.
Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, RP Singh, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma were among Dhoni’s cricketer friends who were present at the wedding, according to a family member who attended the ceremony.
The wedding at the luxury resort had its share of glamour as Dhoni’s friend John Abraham and director-choreographer Farah Khan gracing the occasion.
The marriage rituals commenced around 8pm when Dhoni on a horseback and the groom’s party walked for around half a kilometer to the bride’s place, located at the same resort premises.
Dhoni wore a black ‘sherwani’ while Sakshi was dressed up in ‘churidar-pyjama’.
Tight security was thrown around the resort. The media was practically kept out of bounds and they had to station themselves at a 1 km distance from the main gate of the sprawling resort and the news relating to the wedding ceremony inside came out in trickles.
Even the select guests who attended the wedding ceremony were seen being brought into the resort in four vehicles kept for the purpose.
A top police official said that Dhoni arrived early this morning at the farmhouse, where adequate police force has been deployed.
“We have been requested by the family members that the wedding should be totally a private affair,” said the police official.
Although family sources had indicated after the engagement that the marriage will take place in October, India’s tight schedule in the next few months might have prompted the rescheduling.
The couple is expected to host a reception in Mumbai on July 7, which also happens to be Dhoni’s 29th birthday.
Dhoni and Sakshi, who hails from Aurangabad, had been school friends at DAV, Shamily in Ranchi.
“Their fathers worked together in MECON, and the Rawats moved to Dehradun after retirement,” a family friend said.

Nepali President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Madhav Kumar, Maoist chief Prachanda, former King Gyanendra, and Govinda of Bollywood are expected to attend Manisha Koirala’s wedding today in Kathmandu.
The 41-year-old actress is set to tie the knot with businessman Samrat Dahal, 33, in a traditional ceremony that will be low-key and off-limits to the media. However, the reception will be grand and 3,000 cards have been distributed for the same.
Manisha and Dahal have been seeing each other for over a year and their wedding date was fixed by an astrologer. The actress had evaded marriage earlier and broke off two engagements in the past.

Surely breaking the hearts of teenage boys the world over, Megan Fox has confirmed that she is engaged to Brian Austin Green – again.
The couple were engaged before, but split in February 2009 after five years together. However, they reconciled last summer and have now confirmed that they are getting married. A rep for the Transformers star said last night: “Yes, she is engaged.”

Pick up a newspaper or surf news channels and I’m sure, atrocities being committed on students by teachers/principals wouldn’t escape your attention. Also do a Google and so many results on this topic would open up in a fraction of seconds.
Educational institutions – not all, but a few definitely – are in a crazy rush to create a brand for themselves and even parents are keen that their kids become scholars and whiz kids overnight. Resultantly, the child is not just burdened with a bulky school bag on his back, but also carries the burden of ambitions, aspirations and unfulfilled dreams on his tiny, frail shoulders.
PAATHSHAALA merely touches the tip of the iceberg. It attempts to answer questions related to the sanctity of today’s education system. It sheds light on the shortcomings in today’s schools and how morals and ethics associated with the teaching profession seem to have taken a complete backseat. Let’s not compare it with TAARE ZAMEEN PAR or 3 IDIOTS, although a few sequences, in these two trend-setting films, threw light on the pressures on students.
PAATHSHAALA, penned by Ahmed Khan and directed by Milind Ukey, is well-intentioned. It has a lot to say, but the predicament is, what translates on celluloid is not razor-sharp. Of course, there are few defining moments in the movie, which do make you ponder on the plight of the educational system. But there are also portions – when the media steps in to boost the brand of the school – that are mumbo-jumbo.
On the brighter side, the acting is distinguished. Nana underplays beautifully, Ayesha adds to the sunshine moments, but it’s Shahid who pitches in a commendable and convincing act.
Final word? PAATHSHAALA, made with noble intentions, could’ve been a splendid wake up call, but it runs out of steam midway!
The story begins with a new English teacher, Rahul Prakash Udyavar , joining Saraswati Vidya Mandir School. Though he strikes an instant rapport with students and teachers alike, he realizes that there is something amiss in the school.
Slowly, his doubts prove true as School Manager Sharma makes many monetary obligations compulsory on the parents in the name of extra-curricular activities. He goes to the extent of punishing the students inhumanly when the new, unjustified demands of the school are not fulfilled by the parents.
When Rahul unifies the teachers against the atrocities of school management, Principal Aditya Sahay defends the management decision. This comes as a shocker to the teachers as Sahay is known for his dedication as an educationist for last 32 years, which has built the school’s high reputation.
The situation turns grave as the school management becomes over-ambitious with its growth and involves media planners in the extra-curricular activities. This demands the involvement of students in TV reality shows and many other media activities used for building up the school image in public, which starts reflecting on the students’ stress levels. The pressure on young minds increases incredibly, leading to unexpected consequences.
One of my childhood memories is of a few students being called to the principal’s office and being reprimanded for not paying their school fees on time. In another instance, I vividly recall a student being made to stand in scorching heat, under the blazing sun, since he was up to some mischief all the while. The barbaric attitude was a way of teaching the student a lesson.
PAATHSHAALA brings back those dark memories because the film encapsulates these two incidents on celluloid. The problem with the film is, it gets very real at times, but gets farcical as well. The participation of kids in media activities doesn’t have a hammer-strong impact. The chilly portion and the director capturing it on camera, or the press photographer munching samosa as the kids get ready with a pyramid, looks unreal, despite being identifiable incidents. Even the climax is confusing. What is Nana saying in the concluding reels lacks precision.
Director Milind Ukey has filmed some scenes expertly, but, as mentioned above, the film lacks the power to make you do a serious introspection. Hanif Shaikh’s music is strictly okay.
Nana is very much in sync with his character. Shahid displays the vulnerability and helplessness remarkably. Ayesha is a complete natural, as always. Amongst the plethora of teachers and students, Sushant Singh does well, Sushmita Mukherjee is serviceable and Saurabh Shukla is so effective, you start hating him for his repulsive attitude.
On the whole, PAATHSHAALA is a well-intentioned film, but lacks clarity thanks to an uninspiring screenplay.

Amidst controversies and hype, Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik tied the knot yesterday at the Taj Krishna hotel in Hyderabad. And now the couple and their families are all excited about the upcoming mehendi ceremony.
Love knows no language. Love knows no barriers. Love knows no age. It’s this thought that director Kabir Sadanand tries to encapsulate in his second directorial venture TUM MILO TOH SAHI.
TUM MILO TOH SAHI may not be the most amazing take on relationships, but it has several moments that make you experience myriad emotions in those two hours. Especially the portions involving Nana Patekar and Dimple Kapadia. Having said that, it must be pointed out that the Rehan-Anjana portions are just not captivating. They lack the power to keep you hooked. Yet, the outcome is much better than what’s being churned out in the name of cinema and entertainment these days.
Final word? Watch it, especially for veterans like Nana and Dimple, whose stellar act proves that old is gold, indeed!
Set in modern-day Mumbai, with all the demands and pressures of city life, the film weaves together the lives of three couples who connect with each other.
It is about the meeting of souls , the meeting of minds and the meeting of hearts , underlining that love is the driving force in people’s lives, irrespective of age.
TUM MILO TOH SAHI has three different stories running concurrently, but get merged into one after intermission. The Nana-Dimple chapter is the pick of the lot, in terms of writing and execution, followed by Suniel-Vidya track and Rehan-Anjana story.
Nana’s eccentric persona is a delight. Watch him in scenes in the super-market or when he encounters a eunuch on the street. His interaction with Dimple’s grandson is fantastic too. Suniel and Vidya’s story has been treated sensitively, but a few moments are plain ordinary, especially their initial portions. Rehan and Anjana’s sub-plot is the weakest link in the enterprise, although the actors make up with earnest performances.
This is director Kabir Sadanand’s second venture and I see a distinct evolution in him as a storyteller. Kabir has handled several sequences with flourish. Sameer Siddiqi and Rajen Makhijani’s screenplay, as mentioned earlier, has its share of engaging and non-engaging moments. The climax, of course, is the highpoint of the film. However, the film is very Mumbai-centric, which would restrict its appeal at other places.
Sandesh Shandilya’s musical score is decent, with the title track being the pick of the lot. Pushan Kripalani’s cinematography is eye-catching.
It’s a treat to watch Nana and Dimple on screen after a hiatus. Both deliver sterling performances. Nana is in terrific form, while Dimple is grace personified. Watch out for Dimple’s courtroom sequence and you’d realize yet again that there’s so much to be tapped. One is sure, after you exit from the auditorium, you’d carry Nana and Dimple in your heart.
Suniel too strikes a chord and plays his part with amazing maturity. Vidya Malavade is super, a dependable actor. Rehan springs a pleasant surprise. It’s an honest performance. Anjana is a complete natural too, displaying the varied emotions with ease. Amongst the host of supporting actors, Mohnish Bahl and Amit Behl stand out. Raghav Sachar has a brief role; he looks photogenic. The child actor playing Dimple’s grandson is very good.
On the whole, TUM MILO TOH SAHI has decent merits that should find flavour with the multiplex junta of Mumbai mainly, thanks to its Mumbai-centric theme. Watch it for the wonderful performances by Nana and Dimple!

The southern belle Asin who seems to win one accolade after another just added another feather to her cap.
Recently we come to hear that Asin won the title of “Youth Icon of Kerala” –a public voting poll that was conducted over a period of 15 days.
Reveals a source “The poll was conducted for over 15 days and involved a lot of personalities – Asin came out the reigning winner since she is intelligent and representative of the thinking youth. She is talented, beautiful and has done Kerala proud”
At the highly prestigious event Asin was bestowed the honor in the presence of the who’s who of the Southern Film Fraternity, political leaders, and Cultural Affairs Ministers.
Adds the source “A seven year old fan of Asin presented her the award since she idolizes Asin – it was a touching gesture and overwhelmed Asin”
We also come to hear that Asin was awarded a cash prize which she donated to palliative care department that concentrates on reducing the severity of disease symptoms.
The word youth icon /idol seems to be a popular fit with Asin these days since just weeks ago she was called to speak on behalf of the youth at the esteemed India Today conclave on the subject of “Reality v/s Idealism” .
